This crab salad recipe goes great in sushi or a poke bowl.

Having California rolls for sushi night is a must for us but you can’t always find a premade version of crab salad that goes well into a sushi roll.  Look no further than here!  This recipe is super easy and a great starter recipe for crab salad.  If you want to make sushi or a poke bowl or even have this as a side dish, it’s the perfect start.

In this recipe you only need 4 ingredients that you should be able to find pretty easily in your local grocery store.  The crab meat we use is found in the refrigerated section (though sometimes the frozen).  As for the mayonnaise, you can use what you usually have on hand, though I find using Kewpie mayonnaise tastes a little better for this recipe.

Kitchen Tools Needed:

  • Medium Mixing Bowl: You will need one big enough to be able to mix all of the ingredients together.
  • Spoon or Paddle: The choice of using a spoon or a paddle is completely up to you.  If you have a metal bowl, a wooden paddle is the better option so as to not scrape the bowl.  If you are using a different type of bowl, it will what you are comfortable with.
  • Food safe storage container: We use a tall, cylindrical food safe container. Make sure to fully wash and dry the container before use (especially if it is new).

Ingredients:

  • Imitation Crab Meat: We get a brand called Kani Kamaboko, imitation crab stick.  The sticks of crab meat make it easy to shred and chop into smaller pieces.
  • Mayonnaise: We use Kewpie mayonnaise for this recipe.  Most mayonnaise will work though for this.
  • Sriracha: This is for if you like spice.  If you are not a fan of spice you can either half the amount or omit this ingredient altogether.
  • Salt

How to make the Crab Salad:

  1.  Measure out all ingredients and place in a medium bowl:
  2. The imitation crab meat we use is kept refrigerated and comes in a package of 30 sticks (approximately 17.6 oz, 1.1 lbs).  To prep the crab meat, you need a fork and run it through the stick of crab meat down the length of the stick.  This will begin to shred the meat quite easily.  Once the meat is shredded, gather it up and chop into smaller sections.
  3. Add in the mayonnaise, sriracha, and salt.
  4. Mix until everything is thoroughly combined.
